Dr Greeff qualified as an Orthopaedic Surgeon in 1996 under the guidance of Prof R Snowdown at the University of the Free State (UF) in Bloemfontein, RSA. He started in private practice in 1996 at Rosepark hospital, Bloemfontein.
During his training he already showed an interest in shoulder and knee surgery and was elected as the Smith & Nephew travelling registrar for UF in 1995.
This allowed him to visit all the medical faculties of South Africa, presenting his research on these topics and educating himself on similar matters from top academics.
He also was awarded the GT du Toit award for best presentation by a registrar at the annual meeting of the South African Orthopaedic Association (SAOA) in Durban 1995.
Gerhard Greeff has always been part of a very select group of surgeons developing and improving shoulder surgery in South Africa. He was awarded an overseas travel grant by (SAOA) and attended an Arthroscopic learning course in Chicago, USA at the early stages in the development of shoulder and knee surgery.
Ever since he has visited numerous prominent shoulder surgeon in USA, Europe and the UK to keep abreast in the latest developments and techniques of his interested field of orthopaedic surgery.
He has been a member of numerous faculties and courses not only in South Africa but also in countries like Germany, Poland, India, Pakistan, England, Italy and Singapore. Always teaching and learning in the fields of knee and shoulder surgery.
He has presented his work at local and international congresses and has acted as secretary to the South African Shoulder and Elbow Society (SASES). He has also acted as an advisory consultant for an international Orthopaedic company on the development and use of shoulder Arthroplasty.
Currently he is concentrating on all aspects of knee, hips and shoulder surgery and performing hip Arthroplasty.
